How to get to The Hayes

(information taken from The Hayes’ website )

Located in a central part of the country, The Hayes is the perfect centre for people to travel to from all across the UK. The centre features great travel links that makes it easy to get to, no matter where you are commuting from.

Travelling by car

The Hayes is only 5 miles from the M1
  • From Junction 28 of the M1 take the A38 dual carriageway towards Derby.
  • Leave the A38 at the exit marked A615 Matlock / A61 Chesterfield.
  • At the roundabout take the B6179 towards Swanwick and Ripley.
  • After 0.8 miles turn left (B6016) at the traffic lights by the church.
  • 500 yards down the road, past the school buildings, veer right signed ‘Conference Centre’ into Hayes Lane.
  • The Conference Centre is straight ahead.
Arriving from the South (on the A38)
  • Take the exit signed Matlock A6, Ambergate A610, Ripley B6441.
  • At roundabout take 4th exit Ripley B6441.
  • After just under a mile you come to a junction.
  • Go straight forward in the left hand lane onto the B6179 to Swanwick.
  • ­As you enter Swanwick take the 1st right (Hicton Road).
  • After half a mile take the 1st right to enter the site.
Arriving from the North (on the A38)
  • Take the exit signed Matlock A6, Ambergate, Heanor A610 and Ripley B6441.
  • At roundabout take the 2nd Exit signed Ripley B6441.
  • After just under a mile you come to a junction.
  • Go straight forward staying in left hand lane onto the B6179 to Swanwick.
  • As you enter Swanwick take the 1st right (Hicton Road).
  • After half a mile take the 1st right to enter the site.
Arriving from Chesterfield (on the A61)

Take the 3rd exit onto the A38 for Derby and then follow the information above.

By rail

The Hayes is about 3 miles from the local train station

Our local station is Alfreton Station on the Sheffield-Nottingham (every half an hour*) and Liverpool to Norwich lines (every hour*)

*Please check times with the train providers as these may be subject to change.

Please be advised that there is no lift available at Alfreton Station, so passengers may need to continue their journey on to a fully accessible station and return back to Alfreton in order to arrive on the accessible side of the station.

Some guests may prefer to travel to Derby Station, with direct lines from London, then catch a bus (see below) or taxi from Derby to The Hayes.

N.B. Derby Station is 1 mile from the centre of Derby, all buses heading into town from the station all stop at the bus station.

Taxi Transfers

We recommend that you pre-book taxis if arriving at Alfreton and Derby Stations. Our recommended reliable taxi company is Amber Taxis. As a guide, Amber Taxis charge £25.00 from Derby Station and £6.00 from Alfreton Station (please quote ‘The Hayes’ to ensure these rates).

By bus*

From Derby
  • Catch the 9.1 or 9.3 bus from Stand C2 on Corporation Street.
  • Ask to be dropped opposite ‘The Gate’ pub in Swanwick.
  • Then walk down Hayes Lane.
  • The Conference Centre is straight ahead – approximately a five minute walk

Additionally the “Comet”  goes from Bay 4 Derby and drops off at the Swanwick Church at 14h05 and 14h35.

From Alfreton
  • Catch the 9.1 or 9.3 bus (towards Derby), from either the bus or train station.
  • Ask to be dropped outside ‘The Gate’ pub in Swanwick.
  • Then walk down Hayes Lane.
  • The Conference Centre is straight ahead – approximately a five minute walk.
